🔌 Virtual audio cable setup

Why you need one (only for Speak)

The Speak card turns your voice into a translated voice — but Meet/Zoom/Teams can only pick a microphone as input. A virtual audio cable is a fake speaker–microphone pair: whatever this app plays into the cable comes out the other end as a microphone the meeting can select.

The Listen card needs no cable — it captures the meeting tab's audio directly when you share it.

🍎 macOS — BlackHole (free)

1. Install BlackHole 2ch. With Homebrew it's one command:

   brew install blackhole-2ch

   (or download the installer from the website — free, they ask for an email).
2. No reboot needed. BlackHole 2ch now appears as both an output and an input device.
3. In this app's Speak card: Output device = BlackHole 2ch.
4. In Meet/Zoom/Teams: Microphone = BlackHole 2ch.

⚠ Don't set BlackHole as the system default output — you'd lose all your computer sound into the cable.

🪟 Windows — VB-Cable (donationware)

1. Download VB-Cable and unzip it.
2. Right-click VBCABLE_Setup_x64.exe → Run as administrator → Install driver, then reboot.
3. In this app's Speak card: Output device = CABLE Input (VB-Audio Virtual Cable).
4. In Meet/Zoom/Teams: Microphone = CABLE Output (VB-Audio Virtual Cable).

🐧 Linux — no install needed (PulseAudio / PipeWire)

1. Create a virtual sink:

   pactl load-module module-null-sink sink_name=translator sink_properties=device.description=Translator

2. In this app's Speak card: Output device = Translator.
3. In Meet/Zoom/Teams: Microphone = Monitor of Translator.

The sink disappears on reboot; run the command again (or add it to your Pulse/PipeWire config to make it permanent).

✅ Check it works

1. Start the Speak card and say something.
2. Watch the meeting's mic level indicator: it should move only when the translated voice plays.
3. Your real voice never enters the call — there's nothing to mute.
